Second in the Fanuilh series. Ghosts, gryphons, and the Thieves Guild, oh my! Liam Rhenford has inherited the wizard's familiar, his house, and solved his murder. His biggest problem seems to be that everyone thinks he's a wizard too. But now someone has stolen enchanted items from the house - but the house is warded against intruders, how could they get in? Liam visits the Aedile (the sheriff) who has problems of his own with a confrontation between two temples. The search for the thief turns up a murder and some complex theological issues. The mystery is still the focus of the book, with Liam tracking down leads and looking for motive, and we learn a bit more about Fanuilh, the tiny dragon familiar. Hood left a couple loose ends to my way of thinking, but oh well.
