ackground: Earth is becoming too dry and arid for humans to exist so two space ships are built and occupied by the brighted and most talented individuals who can occupy and hopefully survive on another planet that they call "New Earth". Unfortunately, humans being humans conflicts arise. Women on the ships are not longer fertile so one adult group harvests eggs from the youngest member to implant iton the infertile women. This sparks a a revolt where many are killed and the colonists divided among two ships. One has all the children and teenagers as well as some ill adults while the other has only adults.
The book: As the ships continue on their way, the ship with the younger members chases the other hoping to retrieve surviving parents. Confllict arises on both ships. Who should be leader on the ship of the young? Some occupants of the adult ship appear just as dissatisfied with their leader. A stowaway from the adult ship kills a child and badly beats two teenagers before he is caught and locked in the brig. Meanwhile the adult leader of the other ship begins seeking a peace treaty. While the story seemed to move slowly in the beginning it speeds to an interesting conclusion leaving this reader thinking it's time to read the third book in the series.
