This told from the POV of a housemaid in Jan Vermeer's 16th century Dutch household, who becomes his model for the painting of the same title. She's artistic herself, but ends up marrying a butcher.

It holds pretty well, I think, to the class distinctions of that place and time. This could be classified as YA, although it does have some non-graphic sex scenes. But what YA nowadays doesn't?

I do enjoy Tracy Chevalier's books.
