I have read a couple of Carol Cox's others books and enjoyed them. But this one took me by surprise! I LOVED this one! The whole Pinkerton detective plot pulled me in as I love spy or detective books. The book opens with setting up the later plot and giving a background of Ellie. But then it plunges you into the middle of a mystery, romance and lots of disguises! I thought the first meeting of the Pinkerton detectives and Ellie was quite hysterical and when I laughed, my sister wanted to know what was going on:) The characters are well fleshed out and the detail is well done. I felt like I was actually in Arizona!
Steven was quite the sweetheart and I had to laugh at certain times with him and Lavinia. Believe me, you will think it is funny when he thinks it is an old woman and she is making eyes at him!! He is very protective and sweet. Jessie Monroe was a little bit different and I can see why Ellie wanted to be more like her but yet, Jessie was a bit flighty at times:)
So, if you want to take a vacation somewhere without leaving the comforts of home, pick up this book. I can't really tell you much more or I will be giving away some of the book. You just have to pick it up for yourself:)
I received a copy of this book for review purposes. All thoughts are 100% mine.
