I've had this book for awhile. My TBR pile is pretty extensive at the moment. As such, I kept putting off starting this one for various reasons - continuing with a series I already started, something a little more... ummm... racy, etc. The New Year brought illness, so I've had a few days with nothing to do but watch tv, read books, and feel sorry for myself. I'm glad I decided to go ahead and start this one. I need another ongoing series to read like I need another hole in my head, but this one intrigued me enough to jump in.

I can give you a list of "issues" with this book, and Rush's writing style, however, I don't feel any of these issues are significant enough to detract from this book, either as a stage setting for the series, or this specific installment itself.

The characters develop relatively well as the story moves along. I especially like that the special abilities of each "Offspring" are to some extent, unknown - each one stretching themselves to find other skills they didn't realize they had. I found myself hoping that each character would come to terms with their flaws, or realize that the darkness inside is not as it seems. But that's probably the "happily ever after" part of me. lol

All in all, I enjoyed this book and will be looking for the rest in the series as soon as I finish this review... cuz I need more in my TBR pile. *sigh*
