I was very impressed by the level of detail about working with a K-9 partner and it made sense when I reached the author bio at the end. Donnelly is herself a K-9 handler. The mystery had some unexpected twists and the descriptions of the National Forest were great. It was a wonderful way to escape into the mountains with realistic, likable characters and a page-turning plot. I did not realize this was book two. I have not read book one and had no trouble following along. I will look for book three, Killer Secrets.
