Phury is the Primale of the vampire species. He has been selected to sire the young of the forty Chosen, preserving the vampire race. His first mate is Cormia. She is gentle and kind, seeing Phury as a good match. But Phury's self-destructive nature and drug use make him believe he is not the right mate for Cormia.

We've waited a long time for Phury's story. I found the romance lacking. Phury spent too much time in his head, listening to the Wizard, his inner-voice, tell him what a loser he is. Phury uses drugs to hide his pain. The brotherhood is starting to question if he can still do his job.

Even though Phury and Cormia's romance is tepid, the other stories in this book are winners. John Matthew, Qhuinn, Blay, Rhev and Xhex all play big roles in this book. There are a lot of twists, turns, and surprises that I didn't see coming. If you're a fan of this series, do not skip this book! My rating: 4 Stars.
