Adelaide Markham is one of four female prisoners sitting in the Dodge City, Kansas, jail in 1877. The judge is too drunk to hear their pleads but the sheriff offers to let the women leave with the wagon train heading to Santa Fe, New Mexico if they will agree to be mail-order brides.

Adelaide has just lost her child and isn't of a mind to be a mother again. However, she prefers to leave on the wagon train. Miles Ryan has a problem staying on the wagon train because of his two difficult daughters. The wagon master has insisted Miles find a wife or stay behind.

So Miles does the gutless thing of not telling Adelaide that he has 2 difficult daughters until they arrive back at the wagon train (after their marriage, so it's too late for her to back out).

I was impressed with the writing; it was professional and entertaining. This is the first book of a series of 4 (see below). Each of the women was in jail for a different reason. All of them were logical and possible. I plan to look into the next story on Cinnamon. Overall score = 4.5 stars.
