When a young boy from a private school is found mudered, DI Lynley and Sgt Havers are asked to investigate by his old school chum. As they commence their quest, they are met with a wall of silence and resistance at every turn. With no shortage of suspects Lynley and Havers struggle on even while dealing with private matters of their own.

The plot is a masterfully written, it crisses and crosses and twists and connects. I just love these books where every detail has meaning.

I was somewhat troubled by the synonymous use of 'homosexual' and 'pedophile'. It's a misconception that the two are even remotely related and I found the correlation offensive. On the other hand it did serve to throw a curve ball into the investigation. And it is true enough also that this is a work of fiction and bookcrossing journals are probably not the best place for my social commentary.

That said, I will most assuredly pick up another Elizabeth George book in this series - perhaps I'll start at the beginning.
