The Corruptible is part of the Ray Quinn series by Mark Mynheir, and the hero, PI Raymond Quinn, nursing a bum leg, bears a striking resemblance to another PIColton Parker, whose four-book series is authored by Brandt Dodson.

Like Colton, Ray is not a believer but has believers close to him; in Coltons case, its a FBI agent and in Rays case its Pamela, who is aiding Rays partner Crevis with some basic education; Crevis wants to eventually apply to the police academy but is apparently dyslexic.

Colton was forced from the FBI and Ray is permanently retired from the force due to a painful disability. A new client offers Ray a large sum of money for the safe return of some confidential information stolen from his office, and the trail leads to a crooked ex-cop, Logan Ramsey. Ray finds Logan dead in a seedy hotel room and the information (said to be in a brown satchel) still missing. Rays client is less than forthcoming with any details, so Ray has to develop his own leads, one of which leads him to a biker gang called the Rebel Soldiers.

Like the Colton Parker books, faith isnt bludgeoned into the head of the hero; instead, its always quietly present in the background. Mynheirs writing is crisp and sparse, much like the old Mike Hammer novels by Dashiell Hammett. This is the second in the series; the first, The Night Watchman is also recommended for lovers of PIs and mysteries.
