This is the first book in the Plainsmen series. This is probably the best books he's written and that's a high recommendation. I've read many of his books.
Here he portrays the people behind the names. If you want a more complete understanding about why Indian wars between red and whites were so vicious, this is the book for you.
Most people in the book were real people. Terry C. Johnston writes impeccably researched historical fiction. Taking non-fiction research and making the people live on the page is a difficult job for a writer. He's a master. Read this book!
