There are a lot of Amish stories right now but this is one of the best I have read. I liked the different approach. Not the standard Amish girl Amish boy conflict story line. Instead, not only does an Amish man become involved with an outsider, but lives out the true faith all Amish are supposed to conduct their lives according to, and does so even to the point of being rejected by his own people.
The characters were very real and engaging. The plot was well written and kept me constantly interested. It flowed effortlessly.
I like to read Christian fiction that I am able to glean spiritual lessons from and this was definitely one.
I learned how our past can entangle us to the point we shut out the present and the future by continuing to live as if we had never moved on as I saw in Cara's life.
I was inspired and touched by Ephraim's commitment to obey what God was guiding him to do inspite of the price he had to pay, the obstacles he had to face, and the misunderstanding he suffered at the hands of his people, even his family.
I also saw the biblical truth carried out by his loving someone that was unlovable and unkind to him, and how God can work on even the hardest hearts if we allow Him to work through us.
There are many others but you have to read the book to find them yourself!
I found this book a very entertaining and pleasant read. I was very pleased with the ending. It left me feeling satisfied with the outcome, without that unpleasant feeling of being left hanging.
I book you want to add to your reading list for sure!
