I won this book in a contest. I hadn't read up on it much, so when I received it I was intrigued. It's part one of a YA Fiction series about best friends, who after spending a summer apart start to wonder why they were friends to begin with. Right off the bat things don't start off very well for Avalon Greene and Halley Brandon. They find out that they are annoyed with the other's style choices or attitude. This book goes back and forth between the two girl's POV, and boy are they brutal! I know middle school can be like this, because I remember how mean the girls could be. You know the ones. They have the expensive clothes, perfect tans, and hair. Well, that's Avalon and Halley.
The best parts of the book, for me, were the girl's entries at the SMS Daily (Seaview Middle School's Daily Online Paper). They start off together doing a fashion piece about what's in or out, and who was seen wearing the ins and outs at their school. As their fight escalates they start writing their own pieces, and the vicious words are directed at each other. I love snark and this is book is filled to the brim with it!
What is also good about the characters is that you can find yourself relating to one of them. I found I identified and felt worse for Halley than Avalon. Avalon took things way too far for me, but it's still easy to feel a little sympathy for her. This is a quick and cute read, if you enjoy the YA genre.
