Archimedes Nesselrode, a gentile artist who makes engaging creations, lives in a house surrounded by his work. Works that people search out. He sells art with the help of Frank Shekle, longtime agent. No one knows how he creates his cubes, not even Frank. Many have tried to discover how. Unsuccessfully.

Enscounced in his home with miscellaneous collections, he needs someone care for the house, in essence a housekeeper. While he tried to hire others, he finds what he needs in Vivian Mare, a no nonsense, organized individul looking for an interesting situation. Past positions quickly bored her. Perhaps, just perhaps, working for the famous artist will be a better fit. Arriving, she meets a basilisk guard at the gate that is a fearsome creature, a bespectacled heron, a pack of mischevious marmosets, a little bishop living in a teapot, a starfish that haunts the main level and gets underfoot, and so many more. She is hired.

Ms. Mare brings order, cleanliness and discipline to the household. Nesselrode is fascinated by these attributes that he so obviously lacks. The two become close, generating respect but something strange happens. Ms. Mare is not bored. She begins to fall in love. How can this be? And, can or does he feel the same?

Hilarious, chaotic, and romantic, this whimsical read is so enjoyable. Stiil, something lurks behind the artist's obscure life. What made him become such a recluse? Leaving his haven for a show of his artwork in a famous gallery, all goes wells until a domineering woman from his past appears. What happens next is beyond belief and the two must find a way to cope with the consequences. This is a well written tale from a most creative mind. I believe that lovers of fantasy with cherish this book.
