These stories are like potato chips, you can't eat just one. Each of the 25 chapters starts with a synopsis of the Law & Order show. Then they tell the gist of a true story from which the Law & Order story came. Finally, they explain the true story with more information (about 10 pages for each story) and sometimes photos. I must add that most of the photos were pretty ratty.
However, the true crimes that the show based their characters and stories on are often more interesting and chilling than fiction. If you know anything about the wildly popular Law & Order shows, you know that the crime is just the beginning because 1/2 the story is about the police investigation and the other 1/2 is about the court trial.
I have heard that there is also a book about the most popular Special Victims Unit (SVU) shows.
