Prior to reading this book, I read the Fitz Clare Chronicles, which I thoroughly enjoyed. Durand, the main character of this book was introduced as a suspicious possible antagonist. In the Devil at Midnight you get to know who he is and the EH does a fantastic job of telling his story.
While the ending/continuation is a lead to the continuation of the romance, it is very well done in making you eager to read the next book, Angel at Dawn, but not in the classic cliffhanger fashion. Highly recommend. Emma Holly at her best.
