This started out very interesting; the Day family has countless strikes against them. Papa is in prison for a crime he did not commit; he is doing poorly and seems near death. Mom Day has lots of sick headaches and exerts little influence. Glory (as the oldest child of the Days) is running the family and the local banker is calling in the note on their farm.

Former Texas Ranger Luke McClain rides into town and before long is accidentally shot by Glory. She takes him home to care for his wounds (there isn't a doctor in the area) and he sees how desperate Glory is for help. However, he has a secret about why he's no longer a Texas Ranger.

This is when the story fell apart for me; I had difficulty returning to it. The author just keeps piling it on; Glory becomes blind. The story seemed to drag until near the end. I found some parts of the ending to be not very likely. Overall score: 3.5 stars
