I sometimes was fortunate enough to hear the Letter From America on the radio and especially valued his comments on our foibles. Mr. Cooke had been here since the FDR administration. The sampling of his work offered here holds up well. Do not fail to read his essay on HST, published the day before the 1948 election he was expected to lose, in which Cooke reminds readers of his ineptness in some cases and praises his character.
I believe this book will find a reader in the old soldiers and sailors' home.
