In this novel, the Navy SEALs promise is to protect a woman who has been receiving death threats. Chaz Roylance is a retired SEAL whos now a private investigator working out of Salt Lake City, Utah, for Roman Luftka (seen in previous books by Rebecca Winters). Aside from developing a taste for donuts, he is still mourning the death of his wife from cervical cancer.

Lacey Garvey Pomeroy enters his life. She is the successful teenage author of a science fiction novel (parts of which appear in this book) and now hosts a paranormal/UFO radio show. This subplot is a little goofy, but I found myself wanting to read this science fiction novel of hers. Chazs idea is to insert himself into Laceys life by having them pose as an engaged couple so he can find the person whos been threatening her. This is also a goofy subplot, but it works.
The best part of the book is the reveal of the villain. The buildup is slow, and most astute readers will guess whodunit, but its still shocking. Theres less romance than suspense in this book, but the characters were at least two-dimensional. However, I did find myself wanting to pick up a Heinlein book once I had finished this book.
