People like Davy Crockett were cut from cloth that has long gone out of fashion. They were men who did the right thing, even when it wasn't popular. I thought this book was a balanced telling of Davy's life because the author didn't soft-pedal Davy's marital woes or his drinking. The author was accurate in stating that heavy drinking was the norm during that day and time.
Having read quite a bit about Davy Crockett, this is the first time I've seen any mention of the man owning a slave. In fact, I find it hard to believe. I looked over the 'Bibliography' but could not find any source to substantiate that claim.
