A fine British point-of-view on the difficulties involved, including the political problems, in breaking the Japanese codes during World War II.

One of the problems exposed is the high-level American effort to avoid cooperation with the Brits so as to claim the credit.

This is also pointed out in American books on the subject, showing how Washington-based high-level military administrative officers, especially in the U.S. Navy, used their influence to basically destroy code breaking operations in Hawaii.
