This was an interesting vampire story - it seemed like a blend of many different vampire novels: _Interview with a Vampire_ in its format (though in this case, it would be Diary of a Vampire), the _Twilight_ series for the youth of the narrator, and that show _True Blood_ in the way the vampires feed (I have that series on my shelf, waiting to be read...). Anyways, the way it all blended together made the book original, but there was just something missing that stopped it from being truly excellent, truly new... I guess I would have liked it to be darker... or maybe have stronger characters that made a bit more sense in their motivations. I certainly didn't hate it, but I didn't love it either. And to be totally honest, I am not too thrilled to be reading the sequel next... but, you never know, the sequel could be better than the first... I hope...
