With this, the fifth book, the series comes to an end and all the loose ends are tied up.

In some respects, this volume is not as good as some of the others. There is more politics, conspiracies and the kidnapping of an important character by internal terrorists. The final resolution pits three vast armadas and two psycho-admirals against the heroes (the Confederation). It is hard to wrap up a series and not all authors do it well. Dalmas does a reasonably good job here and three governments end up being reasonably content. It is a shame that hundreds of thousands had to die for that to happen. But then war is the greatest waste of resources that men and lizards have ever created.

I think my favorite of the five novels was "The Regiment's War," the fourth in the series.
