Iris Richmond is the rich spoiled daughter of a Texas rancher living a great life in St Louis when she is notified that her parents have been killed in an accident. When she gets back to TX she finds that the ranch has been mismanaged and the bank is foreclosing. Iris has nothing left except 2000 head of cattle but she needs to get the herd to market to sell so that she has some funds to live on.

Iris figures her only way to get her herd to market is to convince Monty Randolph to move her herd along with about 4000 cattle from the Circle 7 Ranch to Wyoming where he is headed to take over management of another ranch the family has purchased. Iris has had crush on Monty since she was 13 yrs old and she figures getting him to do what she wants will be as simple as using a trick her mother taught her - begging and batting her eyelashes. Monty is having none of it and is actually mad that she even tries. No matter how she tries to convince him to take her with him he tells her no. Finally Iris decides to trick Monty into having to help her. She starts her herd out ahead of the Randolph herd and when they are too far down the trail that she thinks he will not send her back, she turns her herd and stampedes them into the Randolph herd. She is convinced that Monty will now help her. He does - but with much grumbling and determination to break Iris so that she will be willing to go back to Texas.

Monty soon determines that that men in the Richmond crew are not loyal to Iris and are out to cause her harm and he becomes more and more on alert to protect her all the while trying to get her to turn around. He turns her into one of the cowhands thinking that will stump her - she loves it and becomes very good at it.

Various trail trials including rustlers and more stampedes stand in the way and Monty has a growing admiration for all Iris is able to do. Iris loves Monty and soon he knows he loves her also but he does not want a female in his life. Many ups and downs occur in their relationship and soon the other Randolph brothers on the cattle drive realize that Monty loves Iris but do not know how to tell him that as he can be very volatile when things do not go his way.

This is the 3rd of 7 books about the Randolph brothers and I look forward to reading the other books in the series.
