I agree the concept of a deaf hero is different and unusual, which was nice. BUT...I also felt many times in the book he was made out to be "less than" because of his disability. Even by his "Highland Wife". I never quite found him to be a hero I would want for myself, which is something a book needs to have to hold my interest. Not bad, not good, just not my taste.
