This is not my favorite Rumer Godden book. I much prefer her children's books. It centers around an aging ballerina and her plans for a 50th anniversary performance by students and graduates of her ballet school. All the performers are very self-centered, and the support people - musicians, set designers, costumiers, etc. - are very devoted. It's also an insider's view of the nuts and bolts of preparing a ballet performance.
