At the Mercy of the Queen: A Novel of Anne Boleyn

This is a historical novel about Anne Boleyn and her maid, who is also her cousin. There isn't a lot of action -- most of the book is spent waiting ... waiting for sons to be born, waiting for the King to visit, waiting for the axe to fall. Those familiar with history will find few surprises here. There are a few jarring oddities in the story -- one of the male leads uses condoms in a modern-sounding way, for example. Other than that, this is a pleasant but uninspiring read. Note: This review is based upon an ARC.
