Once again, Victoria Thompson does a great job of mixing history with an entertaining plot. The story is set in 1918 New York, and our lovely MC Elizabeth Miles returns to seek justice for a new friend of her, Priscilla Miles. Priscilla, a wealthy widow that Elizabeth has met at church, has been recently widowed two times and discovered that her second recently deceased husband has spent all the money left to her by her first husband. Suspecting a grifting scam, Elizabeth tries to get Priscilla's money back to her.


The characters in this story are interesting, and I really enjoyed the author's references to a current book of etiquette for society women that Elizabeth refers to in her quest to become socially acceptable to her beau Gideon.


Anxiously waiting the next book in this series!
