Love Chet and Bernie's adventures, and this one did not disappoint! It takes place in Washington, DC, and the adventure begins when Bernie decides to visit his girlfriend Suzie. She had recently moved to Washington to begin a job as a journalist with the Washington Post. Bernie had decided to surprise her and was surprised himself when he met a man leaving her home when he arrived. As he was walking out, Eben called her "love", and the misunderstandings only worsened from there.
When Eben is murdered, and the evidence indicates that Bernie is involved, the plot thickens. Since all of Spencer Quinn's Chet and Bernie novels are narrated by Chet (a 100# plus, K-9 school flunk-out), we are entertained by stories of squirrels and allusions to previous novels; however, since Chet has a bit of trouble concentrating, he seldom finishes his thoughts coherently!
Usually I can guess fairly accurately the whos and whys, but this one took me by surprise. I did figure out some of the whos, but the whys weren't at all clear until the final pages, so it was a really satisfying read.
If you like stories with lots of laughter, a bit of romance and a solid mystery, I think you'll enjoy this one as much as I did.
