The Timberwolves are trying to raise money for charity. Johnny decides to play tricks on the people in his town, video tape it, charge everyone to watch it, and bribe them for the original copy. Its for a good cause after all. After his first trick on his best friends, Stu and Tom, he convinces them to help. His friends have tricks of their own to play but Johnny is their target. Toms cousin, Tammy, challenges Johnny to sports competitions and Stu is there to capture it all on tape. Johnny is embarrassed to have been beaten by a girl, but Tammy is not all that she seems. In the end, Johnny receives a life lesson that teaches him to laugh at himself. The author would have been better off if Johnny had learned to respect others in the end, that the end does not justify the means, and that a girl beating him is possible and not something of which to be ashamed. I would hesitate to place this book on my classroom shelf. I would not want my students to emulate the way Johnny and his friends have behaved in this story.
