This is a classic tale of three boys cast onto a South Pacific island and learning to love the island as they learn to survive on it. The introduction does specify that these boys were products of the author's time-staunchly British, wishing to retain the belief that white British citizens would always rise to the top of any civilization over darker skinned natives. There is also the incongruity of the boys discovering penguins (more in keeping with the polar region). This book has never been out of print since 1868! So of course, I had to read it. I would recommend it for teenagers, but not necessarily younger children.
