Slocum was the last man left in silver city. Everyone else had vamoosed when the price of silver fell. Now winter was coming and Slocum had yellow haired Mary Anne to keep his nights warm, and a sheepherder's job to keep his days filled with action. Together with his high country Basque amigos, he was going to drive 8,000 woolies off Owyhee Mountain, even if he had to open the trail with a six gun!
