Book Review of The Pearl of the Antilles

The Pearl of the Antilles
MSCOZY avatar reviewed on

A multi-generational story of women spanning from the Spanish settling of Cuba to the emigration of the last daughter. Two wealthy families intermarry and build up their fortunes and families. All this takes place and then Castro takes over Cuba and rich families begin to lose their homes, businesses and even their family as sides are taken following the revolution.

The main character Margarita, narrates most of the tale from her perspective. Here we have a culture steeped in machismo and religion where women are treated as property. The story involves love, choices, religion, culture, mores, freedom, racism, privilege and slavery.
