An Offering of Uncles scintillates with devastating wit and is extremely enjoyable whatever its other merits may be. Father Capon's stature as a contemporary theologian will no doubt be more justly estimated in the future than it can be at present, but at least it can be claimed that although he may not be the very best or greatest theologian in the world today he has at all events the best prose style...the book is a joy to read and even people who do not feel very interested in the subject matter would do well to read it because of its charm and excellence as a piece of twentieth century English literature.
