A spur of the moment trip becomes a terrifying nightmare for medical examiner Maura Isles. Far from home she finds herself and her traveling companions in a remote village which seems to have become a ghost town. Where are all the people and why did they leave so suddenly. But Maura and her friends may not be as alone as they think. Back home in Boston her friend homicide cop Jane Rizzoli gets word that Maura's charred body has been found. But the news leaves Jane with too many questions and she sets off to discover the truth.

This is part of the popular Rizzoli and Isles series and the focus is more on Maura this time around. I was so caught up in the story i read 300 pages in the first setting and finished it the next day. There are appearances from past characters and the story moves rapidly. There is a twist at the end that left me with a couple of questions but not enough to take away from the enjoyment of the story. The characters in the books are more interesting then their TV counterparts. A good read.
