I am thoroughly enjoying all the titles in this British Library Crime Classics series. In this novel set in a small town, the nosy busybody and seeker of moral escapades, Miss Tither, has snooped once too often, handed out one too many religious tracts, and made one too many accusations of sin. She ends up murdered with lots of suspects who were happy to get rid of her. Scotland Yard Inspector Littlejohn is sent to work with the local police to solve the murder which leads him back to London in his search. Hidden relationships, a changed will, and financial scams confuse Littlejohn's search for the murderer. A very good read.
