Book Review of Kissing Cousins: A Memory

Kissing Cousins: A Memory
reviewed on

Hortense Calisher conjures up the rich and varied textures of her childhood,of her Southern Jewish family, and especially of her "kissing cousin" Katie Pyle--a woman some twenty years Hortense's senior. Katie: equal parts openness and reserve, mystery and straightforwardness, an ever-ermerging presence at crucial times in her cousin's life. Kissing Cousins is a masterpiece of reminiscence. (from the book flap)

I enjoyed it--the writing style was lovely, but sometimes I felt I wasn't getting the whole message.
