Accidentally and somewhat violently flung back in time to Charlemagne's eighth-century Francia, archaeologist Mike Bailey awakens to find himself literally at the feet of the lovely, golden-haired Danise-with absolutely no memory of who he is or where he has come from. Memory, love, and acceptance all arrive in due course, but then, unlooked for, the present interferes. Combining real and imaginative people and events, Speer (Castle of Dreams, Windsor, 1990) creates a romantic adventure filled with political intrigue that provides a detailed look at a not-often-used historical time period. The emphasis is on the historical rather than the time travel aspects.
