Elizabeth George writes British police procedurals featuring Detective Sergeant Barbara Havers and Detective Inspector Thomas Lynley. I have enjoyed them when my mood runs to slower, more thoughtful British stories, which I like--at times. This one, from 1997, is one of the good ones.
