Without giving too much away...I'd recommend this book to anyone.
And I don't think I've ever said that before.
Man, women, child, parent... I think it speaks to all of us. Yes, Jodi Picoult writes about the "unspeakable" issues of the times, and yes she delivers with a family unit that we learn to care deeply about.
I loved the way each chapter is written in the first person of a different character.... she lets us know their deepest thoughts and we learn how they react to each situation from their perspective. There's no right or wrong here, the readership can each make their own decision on the "ethics" of whether a 13 yr old should be "medically emancipated" from becoming an organ donor to a "dying" sibling. I felt for all involved, and how eloquently Picoult voices the anquish of a mother, father, and "forgotten" son in this tale of human tragedy.
At the end of this wonderfully written saga is a chapter that tore at my heart, brought tears, and yet uplifted my spirit in a way so few authors have ever achieved.
I read it quickly....but only because I wanted to be with them, sharing a heartache that would be too impossible to bare alone.
