Miss Joanna Fulgrave was being pressured heavily by her parents to marry, to the point where they had approved the courtship of Rufus, the Earl of Clifton, but Joanna sensed something about Rufus that repelled her and refused to obey. A few years ago she had met and fallen in love with Colonel Giles Gregory but that was before she was Out. Unable to dissuade her parents, Joanna (who knew little about dangers she might face) ran away. When her disappearance was discovered, Colonel Gregory went in search of her. Adventures ensued.

This is the second book in a series. The first book, The Earl's Intended Wife, is about the hero's friends, Alex and Hebe, who don't just do a walk in but are important characters in the story. I don't usually care about "catchups" in connected novels, but that was one of the best parts of the book. With Harlequin you kinda know what to expect, but this is a good read.
