A marvelous anthology; all great stories, not a weak link in the bunch. Lackey apparently learned from Marion Zimmer Bradley the rewards of letting other authors "play" in the world she created.
Peopled with folks who fit right in to the world of Valdemar and its neighbors; events and characters already revealed in the Valdemar novels [i.e., the Tedrel Wars]. One writer [Fiona Patton] continues the story of a family she introduced in an earlier anthology [the Danns of the Iron Street Watch house of the Haven City Watch].
The frosting on the cake is the last entry, a new story by Lackey herself; an incident with Vanyel, a broken ankle, and the healer with animal mind-speech who helps save the village from a monster.
