This book is the first by Miss Penrose that Ive read. At first, I had some difficulty getting into the story. I mentioned my problem on one of the PBS forum pages and was promptly assured that I should stick with itthat it gets better. Im so glad I did. The story turned out to be quite interesting and dealing with a subject we dont often see in Regency Era books. There is a sub-story around chocolate, which, as I understand it, carries through to Miss Penroses next book in this series.

The characters were all well developed and the main characters were likable and in some cases, funny. In all there were touches of humor, mystery, suspense, murder and delicious sounding chocolate recipes at the beginning of each chapter. There was not, however, a lot of sex.actually there was none, whatsoever. But, I didnt miss it. If the author had placed the characters in a sexual situation, I dont think it would have added anything to the story. In fact, I think it would have detracted from it.

In all, I enjoyed the story and look forward to reading more from this author. By the way, Andrea Penrose is a pen name for Cara ElliotIve got some of Caras books on my TBR shelves but havent read those yet.

I'm giving this book a 3 star rating...here's why: I wanted to rate it 3.5 stars but this system only has whole stars and I didn't think it quite lived up to a 4 star.
