Ever since I read "The Magic Hour", Kristin Hannah has been my favorite author. She has yet to disappoint me. It took me a while to read "The Women". First off, I wasn't excited to read about the War in Vietnam. It brought forth memories of that time. My brother was drafted. My boyfriend was in the draft lottery with a very low number. But as usual with her stories, it didn't take long to get hooked!
The story revolves around Frankie, a young idealistic women from a conservative family in southern California, who decides to follow her enlisted brother to Viet Nam. She is an inexperienced naive young nurse, who has a rude awakening to the reality of war.
(from summary--The real battle lies in coming home to a changed and divided America, to angry protesters, and to a country that wants to forget Vietnam.) Even her parents who en
couraged her brother to enlist, have a different perspective of their daughter for doing the same.
Highly recomment. 5 stars!!
