A quiet love story between Martha, an acid tongued spinster and Thomas, a hired hand on her cousins farm. Thomas is in hiding in America for crimes against the king of England. It is an unlikely match and slowly develops into a love that would make Martha choose a life of secrecy. The book has many gory details of beheadings, wolf attacks and dog fights yet still remains a quiet read. I would not consider this a page turner but you do want to finish it and the ending is not disappointing.
