A series of horrible murders folds back the veneer of a Victorian household. A remarkable book for its approach: not so much a building of suspense, but a revelation of character rather than action, an exploration of class differences and manners. Gripping, surprising and convincing. I love the Victorian era and thoroughly enjoyed this book.
