This engaging novel captures all the color and oddity of the American right in the 1950s, especially the group around Ayn Rand and the John Birch Society. Buckley is the founding father of the right wing, but he pulls no punches in his characterizations, and provides insight into the psychology of a movement that had a remarkable and surprising importance for American society.
