Fanny's Dream

A young farmgirl wants to go to the ball. She dresses up, buys a new hat, and waits outside for her fairy godmother. Instead, Heber walks by and asks her to be his wife. Fanny gives up her dream and becomes a farmwife instead.

Years later, after three children have been born, the fairy godmother shows up and offers to take Fanny to the ball. Fanny picks the melon she was after and says no.

Why I recommend it: It's a Cinderella story, sort of. It's a story of you might not get what you thought you wanted, but your life turns out fine just the same.
