I absolutely adored "Oryx and Crake". It is still one of my all time favorites. Although I didn't like this one as much, I still enjoyed it. I read "Oryx and Crake" so long ago that I barely remembered any of it other than the main story line and a few of the names. So this book does stand alone, however read the first one if you haven't yet!
