This book is the 9th in the series. Raines Rebels are firmed established in the south-eastern part of what used to be the USA. They head north to New York to begin the campaign against the Night People - those who are surviving in the depths of the major cities.
I enjoyed this book and did not find the violence overwhelming. However, the Night People are cannibals - even to the point of keeping "farms" where they "fatten up people who will become their next meal".
Recommended.
